The Coosa Valley Academy football team defeated Sparta Academy 21-15 on homecoming night Oct. 7.

Cody Wood passed for 157 yards and two touchdowns in the victory. Wood also rushed for 56 yards on 10 carries.

Preston Parker caught five passes for 34 yards and a touchdown. Steven Cryer reeled in seven receptions for 36 yards. Tyler Hickman finished with five catches for 63 yards and a touchdown. Cody Garrett caught one pass for 12 yards and also kicked a 15-yard field goal.

Hunter Winslett rushed for 84 yards on 16 carries. Myles Varber scored on a 3-yard touchdown run in the game.

Parker finished with eight tackles. Cryer and Jake Carter added seven tackles each.

“Our defense stepped up in the second half tonight,” said Coosa Valley coach Bobby Hughes.

The Rebels can clinch a spot in the playoffs with a win at Sumter Academy Oct. 14.
