Shelby Humane Society to hold pet costume contest

The Shelby Humane Society is partnering with Riverchase Galleria for an inaugural Pet Costume Contest at the galleria Oct. 29 at 2:30 p.m.

The humane society is also offering adoptions for $31 from Oct. 18-29.

Registration for the costume contest begins at 1 p.m. outside the Belk Store on the main level. Entry for the competition includes an in-kind donation to the homeless pets of the humane society, including a need for cat litter, canned cat food, canned dog food and bedding.

All Shelby County residents who bring their well-behaved dogs to the contest will get a free collar and ID tag for their dog.

The top three contest winners will take home a special gift bag prepared by Generation Dog, while the champion dog will take home a week of in-home pet sitting, compliments of Bob the Big Dog.

Celebrity judges for the contest include CBS’s Brooke Weaver, Karen Chuch of Fox 6, Miss Shelby County Outstanding Teen Mary Ann McDougal, Generation Dog’s Catherine Bres, Animal League of Birmingham’s Donna McFeeters and Pleasure is all Wine’s Lorraine Donald.
