Helena and Pelham police officers arrested a 41-year-old Helena man Oct. 18 and charged him with one count of sexual abuse of a 9-year-old girl.

Police arrested Charles Jeremy Gleber, a resident of Belmont Lane in Helena, at about 12:30 p.m. and charged him with one count of first-degree sexual abuse of a child younger than 12.

Gleber was taken into custody at a hotel off Alabama 119 in Pelham, said Helena Police Department Deputy Chief Tim Carter.

Carter said officers brought Gleber into custody fewer than 18 hours after police interviewed the juvenile victim.

“We can’t say a lot right now because of the sensitivity of the case,” Carter said, noting Helena investigators “are to be commended for their fast response in closing a very sensitive case.”

As of Oct. 18, Gleber was being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $30,000 bond.
