A 4-year-old Columbiana girl was killed and her 28-year-old mother was injured after their vehicle left the road in Alabaster’s Camp Branch community.
Alabaster police officers and Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the wreck on Shelby County 26 near the Settlers Cove subdivision at about 7:50 a.m., said Alabaster forensic investigator Daniel Goodwin. The victims’ minivan was the only vehicle involved in the wreck.
Emergency responders pronounced the 4-year-old girl dead on the scene, and transported the child’s mother to the hospital. The child’s mother did not suffer any serious injuries, Goodwin said.
“We know the vehicle left the roadway, but we are still looking into exactly what happened,” Goodwin said. “The girl was pronounced dead on the scene, and the mother was transported to the hospital for observation.”
As of Oct. 19, the accident was still under investigation, and police had not released the victims’ names.
