Falcons dominate Erskine College

The University of Montevallo volleyball team defeated Erskine College 3-0 in a neutral-site match Oct. 21 at Lander University.
The Falcons (10-13) were led by sophomores Manyi Ati and Michelle Carle, who each had 11 kills on the day. Ati had 11 kills and just one error while hitting .500. She also added a solo block and block assist. Carle had just two errors to go along with her 11 kills as she hit .375. She added three block assists to her total.
Freshman Katie Best, a Spain Park High School graduate, had nine kills on 12 attempts good for a .750 hitting percentage. The .750 hitting percentage is a tie for second in the Falcons’ record book for hitting percentage on 10-14 attempts. The percentage ties Kellie Wallace, who also went 9-for-12 back in 1997 against Alabama State University.
Best also added a solo block and three block assists to lead the team with four total blocks.
Senior setter Anna Garrison had 36 assists and seven digs, while senior libero Rachel Wotitzky led the team in digs with 19 for the second-straight match.
The Falcons won in straight sets 25-20, 25-13, 25-15. Montevallo outhit the Flying Fleet .378 to .117, outdug them 42 to 35 and outblocked them 7-1.
The Falcons will be back in action Oct. 22 at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. as they travel to Limestone College to take on the host Saints as well as Lenoir-Rhyne University in a neutral-site match.
