Falcons tie with UNC-Pembroke in women’s soccer match

The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team played for 110 minutes against UNC Pembroke but could not come up with a game-winner in a 1-1 tie with the Braves in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 22.

Montevallo’s lone goal came in the 79th minute as sophomore Taylor Kerr found sophomore Christine Prince in the box. Prince delivered a shot to the top corner to give Montevallo (5-10-1 overall, 2-5-1 in Peach Belt Conference) a 1-0 lead with less than 12 minutes to play in regulation.

The Braves responded in the 84th minute as Amalia Arvidsson used a kick from 35 yards out that just floated over the finger tips of the Montevallo’s keeper to tie the game at 1-1.

Niether team was able to find the net in either of the overtime periods. UNC-Pembroke outshot the Falcons 6-2 in the overtime period and 18-13 throughout the match.

Junior Alyssa Maxwell made eight saves in the contest while allowing just one goal. Britney Bennett did not make a save for UNC-Pembroke and allowed just one goal.

The Falcons honored their three seniors following the match, including Denise Mannion, Michaela Moertzsch and Kristin Rosato.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. as they travel to Columbus State University for a Peach Belt Conference match.
