Wildcats fall on the road at Pinson Valley

Shelby County High School capped Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Region 5 play with a 49-8 loss on the road Oct. 21 at Pinson Valley.

“They just came out and really put it to us,” Wildcats head coach Ryan Herring said. “They had a lot better team than we did.”

Denzel Williams scored the lone touchdown for the Wildcats with a 41-yard touchdown run with 3:19 left in the first quarter. Williams reeled in a pass from Evan McNeal for the 2-point conversion, which cut the Pinson Valley lead to 14-8 at the time.

However,  Pinson Valley reeled off 35 unanswered points to seal the victory.

Williams led the Wildcats with 16 carries for 78 yards and one touchdown. Ty Procter completed 6-of-16 pass attempts for 67 yards, and Evan McNeal totaled six receptions for 67 yards.

“I hope we can bounce back,” Herring said. “We want to finish the year strong.”

The Wildcats will host Chilton County Oct. 28 for their last game of the 2011 season.
