Falcons extend winning streak to four matches

The University of Montevallo volleyball team evened its season record with its fourth-straight sweep Oct. 25 at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa.

The Falcons (13-13) dominated the Tigers 25-17, 25-14, 25-9 in the non-conference match.

Senior libero Rachel Wotitzky had 14 digs, which moved her past the 1,000 career digs mark. Wotitzky, who now has 1,002 career digs, became just the seventh player since the Falcons joined the NCAA to reach 1,000 digs.

Sophomore Manyi Ati and freshman Michelle Walker led the Falcons with nine kills each.

Ati had nine kills on 17 attacks, with just one error, good for a .471 hitting percentage. She added six digs, a solo block and two service aces. Walker had a .438 hitting percentage with three service aces, four digs and a block.

Sophomore Michelle Carle had seven kills, a pair of digs and six blocks, while freshman Jewell Sherrer added six kills on seven attacks and finished with a .857 hitting percentage. She also chipped in a team-leading seven blocks, including a pair of solo stops.

Senior setter Anna Garrison had 34 assists and eight digs.

The Falcons hit .393 as a team, while holding Stillman to a dismal -.054. Montevallo dominated the entire match, including beginning of the third game with a 12-0 run. The run featured 12 straight serves from Ati.

The Falcons will be back in action Friday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. as they travel to unbeaten Armstrong Atlantic State University.
