Falcons compete in Fall Fling

The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team continued its fall schedule with a trip to the University of West Florida for the Argonauts’ annual Fall Fling.

Freshman Niki Polcerova continued to impress as she advanced to the quarterfinals of the “A” draw. On her way to the quarterfinals, she defeated a pair of Division I opponents including the No. 8 seed in the tournament.

In the opening round, Polcerova defeated the No. 8 seed Anna Zurek from Louisiana Tech, 6-3, 6-2. Polcerova then took down Tea Tvrtkovic of McNeese State University, 6-2, 6-2. Her run finally ended in the quarterfinals as she fell to the No. 1 seed and eventual champion Luiza Sonnervig of West Florida, 6-4, 6-2.

Junior Lauren Blairand senior Helene Nordgreen (Bergen, Norway/Bergen Handels Gymnasium) each lost their first round match in the “B” draw. Blair fell to Jessica Hsu of West Florida, 6-1, 6-1. Nordgreen fell to Morgan Dadot of Southeastern Louisiana, 6-3, 6-1. Blair also dropped her opening match of the consolation finals to Victoria Holloway of Coastal Georgia, 8-6. Nordgreen however made a run to the consolation finals where she fell 8-4 to Merilin Tipp of Alcorn State University, 8-4.

Nordgreen began the consolation bracket with an 8-0 win over Julia Saunders of Abraham Baldwin College. She then defeated Cassidy Kincannon of the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, 8-0. Her final victory came over Andreea Nenu of McNeese State University.

Nordgreen and Polcerova teamed up for the “A” singles and fell in the first round 8-2 to a team from McNeese State. In the consolation bracket the pair fell to a team from Alcorn State, 8-5.
