Briarwood Christian School senior Canon Smith has been selected to participate in the third annual International Bowl, which will be held Feb. 1, 2012.

Smith will compete for the 19-and-under U.S. National team against the World team in the bowl, which will be held on National Signing Day.

Smith stood out in a National team tryout session in Austin, Texas last January, which secured him a spot on the 19-and-under roster.

Smith, a 6-foot-4, 255-pound tight end/defensive lineman, has been clocked with a 4.9 second time in the 40-yard dash and has drawn interest from several Division I college football programs.

Smith has caught 16 passes this season for 236 yards and two touchdowns for the Lions, who enter an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A playoff game Nov. 4 against Athens with a 9-1 record.

Smith reeled in 25 receptions for 246 yards and two touchdowns a year ago during Briarwood Christian’s run to the Class 5A championship game.
