Montevallo defeats Indian Springs in season opener

The Montevallo High School girls’ basketball team began the 2011-2012 basketball season on a winning note Nov. 15 after taking a road win over Indian Springs 44-33.
Montevallo jumped out to a 21-7 halftime lead, but saw the host squad close the lead to six points in the third quarter. Montevallo extended the lead back to 33-22 by the end of the period, however, and cruised to the victory.
Kiah Smith paced the Bulldogs (1-0) with 19 points, three assists and six steals. Kayla Cunningham chipped in nine points and nine rebounds.
Kerrington Maddox and Myshael Thompson were dominant in the paint for Montevallo, pulling down 14 and 10 rebounds, respectively.
Callie Leopard led Indian Springs (0-2) with 11 points. Ambria Hardy chipped in 10 points.
BOYS
The Indian Springs School boys’ basketball team defeated Montevallo 51-30 in high school basketball action Nov. 15.
Reeves Duggan led Indian Springs (2-1) with 14 points in the win. Duggan also finished with seven steals.
Stephen Himic added 12 points. Kenechi Ijemere finished with 11 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
Bobby Anderson led Montevallo (0-2) with 12 points.
