Ruby Jean Yessick, age 82, of Alabaster passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Oakman to Vaughn Ervin and Ruby Mae Atkins Dawkins on Dec. 20, 1928.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Raymond E. “Shorty” Yessick; son, Raymond Earl Yessick; sisters, JoAnn Simpson and Lou Akins; and brothers, Edward “Ebb” and Billy Ray Dawkins. She is survived by her daughter, Grethel Peters (Danny) of Alexander City; sons, Michael D. Yessick (Sherry) and Ricky Linn Yessick (Laura) both of Alabaster; sisters, Mary Ellon Sides, Annie Lois Burnett, Sue Allbritton, Judy Madison and Jan Gosa; brothers, Von “Bud” and Robert Dawkins; eight grandchildren, Julie, Jenny, Justin, Remington, Elliott, Hunter, Grant and Chandler; and six great-grandchildren, Brett, Bailey, Chloe, Claire, T.J. and Jesse.

She had worked at Alabaster Industries and retired from Thompson Elementary School Cafeteria. She was a member of Ryan Baptist Church for many years. She was also a member of the Alabaster Chapter #476 Order of the Eastern Star.

The family received friends Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 at Charter Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at Ryan Baptist Church in Montevallo with Brother Charles Stapp officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Charter Funeral Home.
