Falcons down Palm Beach Atlantic in Coca-Cola Classic

The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team pushed its winning streak to six games following a 70-47 victory Nov. 25 over Palm Beach Atlantic University in the Falcons’ Coca-Cola Classic at BankTrust Arena.
The Falcons (6-0) were led by freshman Ryan May, who had a break-out game with 20 points, three steals and four rebounds. May hit 7-of-10 shots from the field while going 3-of-5 from 3-point range.
Senior Jervan Jackson had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. He also led the team with four blocks and dished out three assists. Senior DeMarcus Catchings added 12 points and seven boards while swatting three shots and making three steals.
Senior D.J. Rivera chipped in 12 points while dishing out a team-high eight assists.
The Falcons struggled offensively in the first half as they hit just 31 percent of their shots. Palm Beach Atlantic had an even worse first half as the Sailfish hit just 20 percent of their shots. Montevallo led 23-12 at the halftime break.
The second half was a major improvement for the Falcons as they hit 70.8 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range. Palm Beach Atlantic’s offense improved as well as the Sailfish hit 40.7 percent of their shots but it was not enough as the Falcons out-scored the Sailfish 47-35 in the second half.
The Falcons will return to action Nov. 26 at 4 p.m. as they close out the Coca-Cola Classic by hosting the University of North Alabama.
