Thompson sweeps matches in opening tournament

The Thompson High School wrestling team swept seven matches in its season-opening tournament Nov. 23 at Hewitt-Trussville High School.

The Warriors defeated Oak Mountain 43-26 in the tournament.

Connor Gilson of Thompson earned a 7-4 decision over John David (J.D.) Peden of Oak Mountain in the 106-pound match. Clay Anthony of Thompson earned a 11-0 major decision over Trigg Langner of Oak Mountain in the 113-pound match. Reed Jacks of Thompson pinned Simon Loubser of Oak Mountain in the 120-pound match.

The Warriors’ Mario Haynes earned a 4-2 decision over Jared Godfrey of Oak Mountain in the 126-pound match. Brewer Gilliland of Thompson pinned Stephen Chandler of Oak Mountain in the 138-pound match. John Austin (J.A.) Jones of Thompson pinned Jacob Darty of Oak Mountain in the 152-pound match.

Josh Gillaspie of Thompson pinned Sam Jasinski of Oak Mountain in the 160-pound match. Jesse Masters of Thompson pinned Evan Webb of Oak Mountain in the 182-pound match. David Capers of Thompson earned a 5-2 decision over Chris Richmond of Oak Mountain in the 220-pound match.

The Eagles won five individual matches against the Warriors.

Jacob Parker of Oak Mountain earned a 12-4 decision over Hayden Franklin of Thompson in the 132-pound match. Angus McBee of Oak Mountain pinned Clint Milligan of Thompson in the 145-pound match. Vincent Kimbrough of Oak Mountain pinned Cahman Holder of Thompson in the 170-pound match.

The Eagles’ Justin Woodall pinned Hunter Pinneo of Thompson in the 195-pound match. Billy Dasher of Oak Mountain earned an 8-0 major decision over Kolby Newton of Thompson in the heavyweight match.

Thompson defeated Auburn 50-22 in the tournament. Gilson, Anthony, Jacks, Haynes, Gilliland, Jones, Holder, Capers and Levi Springer each won matches against Auburn.

The Warriors defeated Southside 58-18 in the tournament. Gilson, Anthony, Jacks, Haynes, Jones, Holder, Gillaspie, Masters, Capers and Newton each won matches against Southside.

Thompson defeated Hoover 46-19 in the tournament. Jacks, Haynes, Jones, Gillaspie, Masters, Springer, Capers, Newton and Christopher Lloyd each won matches against Hoover.

The Warriors defeated Tuscaloosa County 41-33 in the tournament. Gilson, Jacks, Haynes, Franklin, Jones, Gillaspie, Masters and Newton each won matches against Tuscaloosa County.

Oak Mountain won four of five matches in the tournament. The Eagles’ only loss came against Thompson.

Oak Mountain defeated Southside 43-30 in the tournament. Peden, Langner, Godfrey, Darty, Webb, Woodall, Richmond and Dasher each won their matches against Southside.

The Eagles defeated Auburn 57-12 in the tournament. Peden, Langner, Loubser, Godfrey, Darty, Kimbrough, Woodall, Dasher, Sam Jasinski, Jake Miller and Lloyd Time each won matches against Auburn.

Oak Mountain defeated Oxford 63-15 in the tournament. Langner, Loubser, Godfrey, McBee, Darty, Jasinski, Kimbrough, Webb, Woodall, Richmond and Dasher each won matches against Oxford.

The Eagles defeated Mountain Brook 55-16 in the tournament. Peden, Langner, Godfrey, Parker, McBee, Jasinski, Kimbrough, Webb, Woodall, Time and Dasher each won matches against Mountain Brook.
