Earth’s loss is heaven’s gain. Born Edith Lavinia Beason on Feb. 20, 1915 to Harkey David Beason and Lydia Ann McClendon Beason in St. Clair County, she passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011 at Heritage Manor in Baton Rough, La. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. (viewing at 9:30 a.m.) at Crestwood Memorial Funeral home chapel Saturday, Dec. 3, 2011. Burial will follow at Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Memorial Funeral Home will direct services.
A former long-time resident of Gadsden and a member of Chris Central Methodist Church, she was a retired Apopka, Fla., elementary school teacher.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, “Coach” Wilson Waites, her parents and two brothers, Clifford J. Beason and Millard Beason.
She is survived by two sons, William G. Waites of Ft. Worth, Texas and James W. Jr. and wife Lela Patricia Waites of Baton Rouge, La.; six grandchildren, Brian, Kyle, Eric, Will, Chase and Meredith; and eight great-grandchildren.
She had a kind and gentle disposition. She touched our hearts with love, nurtured compassion in our thoughts and painted smiles on our faces.
