Columbiana Mayor Allan Lowe will address the public on Jan. 3 during the regular City Council meeting regarding the severe weather incident on Dec. 22 and the city’s decision not to activate the tornado sirens.  Lowe asked all concerned citizens to attend the meeting at Columbiana City Hall, which begins at 6:30 p.m.

“Rather than just issue a press release, I want to encourage people with questions or concerns to come to the meeting and hear an accurate account of that day’s events, the city’s current policy regarding severe weather response, and clear up any inaccurate or false information,” Lowe said. “I will also ask for public comments or questions regarding Thursday’s event.”

“We will review the policy and if it needs to change, we’ll change it,” he added.

Lowe said the outdoor siren policy has been in place since the siren was installed a decade ago. All points of interest covered at the meeting will be posted to the city’s website, Cityofcolumbiana.com, as soon as possible for viewing by those who are unable to attend the meeting.
