A Tennessee man is being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $100,000 bond after police said he sexually assaulted a juvenile in Pelham.
Brad Franklin Cooper, a 29-year-old Antioch, Tenn., resident, was arrested in Jefferson County by the Pelham Police Department on Dec. 22 and charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse. Both counts are felonies.
“It was a case where he sexually abused a juvenile while he was up here (in Pelham) visiting,” said Pelham Police Department Investigation Division Commander Lt. Pete Folmar.
Folmar said Pelham officers located and arrested Cooper during the mid-morning hours at a residence in Jefferson County.
Because police are still investigating the incident, and because it involves a minor, Folmar said he could not release many details about the incident. However, Folmar said the alleged sexual abuse incident was “not recent.”
“It was still inside the statute of limitations,” Folmar said.
