The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team entered the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ NCAA Division II men’s basketball poll at No. 20 this week.

The Falcons, who are the only Peach Belt Conference team ranked in the top 25, are one of just two Southeast Region teams in the poll. Southeast Region foe Lincoln Memorial University headlines the poll at No. 1.

Montevallo (12-3 overall, 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference) began the year ranked No. 17 in the poll in the Basketball Times’ NCAA Division II poll.

The Falcons were last ranked in the top 25 in the NABC Division II poll during the season on January 3, 2011, when they came in at No. 19. Montevallo was ranked as high as No. 5 last season.

The Falcons highest ever ranking was No. 1, which has happened six times in school history. All six of the Falcons’ No. 1 rankings came during the 2005-2006 season, which ended with the school’s first trip to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.

Montevallo will take on Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference contest at home Jan. 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. inside BankTrust Arena.
