The Evangel Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated Cullman Christian 38-32 in high school basketball action Jan. 13.

Whitney Thorpe led the Lightning (9-1) with 11 points, including nine points in the first half, in the victory.

Rainey Ketcham added eight points, four assists and a team-high 11 rebounds in the win. Bethany Letson added seven points, including two 3-pointers.

The Lightning jumped out to a 28-11 halftime lead, only to see the Lions outscore them 19-2 in the second half to tie the game at 30-30. From there, Lacey Entrekin had two baskets, and Thorpe and Kayla Bailey one each as Evangel Christian outscored Cullman Christian 8-2 over the final two minutes.
