Eagles finish fifth in Leeds Invitational

The Calera High School wrestling team finished fifth in team standings Jan. 14 at the Leeds Invitational.
Cody Thomaston, Danny Diaz and Kevin Murry led the Eagles with three individual wins each.
Thomaston pinned Kenneth Murray of Vestavia Hills in the 152-pound division. Thomaston also earned a 9-4 decision over Dillon Mays of Cleburne County and a 6-1 decision over Chandler Wood of Chelsea in the 152-pound division.
Diaz pinned Macklin Crook of Weaver in the 220-pound division. Diaz also earned a 2-0 decision over Jeremy Clark of Leeds and a 3-1 decision over Aaron Boley of Asheville in the 220-pound division.
Murry pinned Alex Stanfield of Oak Mountain in the heavyweight division. Murry also earned a 15-0 technical fall over Dylan Cook of Leeds and won by a match by forfeit in the heavyweight division.
Hunter Alexander and Coby Mize won two individual matches each for the Eagles. Christiam McDonald and Jaylin Washington won one match each.
