The Briarwood Christian School boys’ basketball team defeated rival Chelsea 52-44 in overtime in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 contest Jan. 17.

Jason Laatsch led the Lions (12-11 overall, 1-4 in Class 5A, Area 7) with 17 points in the victory.

Canon Smith added 13 points in the win.

D.D. Washington led Chelsea (11-12 overall, 3-3 in Class 5A, Area 7) with a game-high 18 points.

Jake Ganus added 12 points.

GIRLS

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ basketball team defeated rival Chelsea 48-42 in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 contest Jan. 17.

Hannah Wainwright led the Lions (14-6 overall, 5-0 in Class 5A, Area 7) with a game-high 16 points.

Abbie Cutcliffe added 14 points in the win.

Allie Luster led Chelsea (8-11 overall, 2-4 in Class 5A, Area 7) with 15 points.
