Wildcats roll past rival Eagles

CALERA — The Shelby County High School girls’ basketball team defeated rival Calera 59-36 in high school basketball action Jan. 31.

Aulicia Nunn led the Wildcats (17-6) with a game-high 21 points in the victory.

Amber Johnson added 12 points. Ashley Mizzel chipped in eight points. Hallie Brown contributed six points.

Tempest Cantrell and Jasmyn Buie finished with four points each. Victoria Adams and Sydney Farris added two points each.

Tia McCarter led Calera (10-11) with 14 points.

Perri Duncan added six points. A’Kia Harris and Maurina McClain chipped in four points each.

Taylor White and Jalin Pollard finished with three points each. Kiera Bouie contributed two points.

Shelby County led by as many as 19 points in the opening half. Calera, which was without leading scorer Tyesha Haynes due to an injury, ended the first half with a 10-0 run and cut the deficit to 27-18 heading into the locker room at halftime.

The Eagles trimmed the lead to eight points in the third quarter, but Shelby County opened the fourth quarter with an 8-0 run to seal the victory.
