Falcons open spring season at Outback Invitational

The University of Montevallo men’s golf team finished 11th at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate tournament Feb. 7 in Panama City Beach, Fla., in its opening tournament in the spring portion of its schedule.

The Falcons were led by junior Andrew Lowry, who shot a two-round score of 158, good for 34th overall.

The Falcons finished ahead of Peach Belt Conference rival North Georgia College and State University, which came in 14th in team standings, while conference foe Flagler tied for the lead and Columbus State University finished fourth.

Junior Mariano Lepori finished with a score of 161 and 49th overall. Freshman Andres Morales finished third on the team and 54th overall with a score of 162. Junior Austin Murphey tied Morales with a 162 and shot the lowest single round for the team with a 72 in the first round.

The final Montevallo golfer was freshman Juan Noce, who finished 62nd overall with a score of 162.

The Falcons finished ahead of Central Alabama, Limestone, North Georgia, Catawba and Cape Fear. Montevallo will return to action Feb. 27-28 at the Mardi Gras Invitational in New Orleans, La.
