Eagles top Gardendale in season opener

The Oak Mountain High School girls’ soccer team defeated Gardendale 10-0 in its season-opening match Feb. 13, which also marked the first career victory for first-year coach Pete Dakis.

The match was called in the 53rd minute when the Eagles scored their 10th goal.

Toni Payne and Bailee Harnett led Oak Mountain (1-0) with three goals each. Payne finished with two assists, while Harnett registered one assist.

Haley Gerken added two goals and a team-high three assists.

Julianne Jackson and Emma Roberson, who had one assist, chipped in one goal each. Vicki Hill also recorded an assist in the victory.

Goalkeepers Jill Hester and Kara Mason combined for the shutout.
