A Pelham furniture store will be closing its doors after it sells off its remaining inventory, the company’s chief executive officer said.

Stacks Furniture Outlet, which opened in August 2010 in the former Walmart building off U.S. 31 in Pelham, is currently holding an inventory clearance sale to sell off the store’s stock.

“This has been a very difficult decision (to close the store), but we have not been able to generate the business to support a store this large in this economy,” said Stacks Furniture CEO Chip Miskelly. “Our going-out-of-business sale, however, is generating amazing sales.

“We will be here (until we sell) every piece of furniture,” Miskelly added.

Stacks Furniture was the first tenant in the 130,668-square-foot building after the Pelham Walmart moved to the northern part of the city several years ago.

Miskelly, who also owns the Jackson, Miss.-based Miskelly Furniture, praised Shelby County, and said the company had “been blessed and enriched by this venture.”

We really appreciate the support that we have gotten locally, and we want to thank every customer for their support,” Miskelly said. “So many customers have told us how sad they are to see us go, and I can tell you as the owner, we have met some very fine people in Shelby County.”
