Falcons drop match against West Alabama

The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell at home to the University of West Alabama 8-1 in a non-conference match Feb. 21.
Freshman Niki Polcerova improved her singles’ record to a perfect 5-0 on the season after winning a tight 6-1, 3-6, 12-10 battle in the No. 1 singles’ match. Polcerova and senior Helene Nordgreen came up just short in the No. 1 doubles’ match, falling in a tiebreaker 9-8 (9-7).
Nordgreen also had a tough loss in the No. 2 singles’ match, falling 4-6, 6-0, 10-6.
The Tigers won the No. 2 singles’ match and No. 3 doubles’ match by scores of 8-3, and also swept the No. 4 and No. 5 singles’ matches by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Junior Lauren Blair fell in her first set in the No. 3 singles’ match 6-0, but then forced the second set into a tiebreaker where she fell 7-6 (7-0). West Alabama also won the No. 6 singles’ match with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
The Falcons (3-2) will look to get back on track Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. as they host Albany State.
