Falcons drop match against Armstrong Atlantic

The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to Armstrong Atlantic State University 9-0 in a match Feb. 25.

The Pirates’ lineup featured five singles’ players ranked in the top 50 along with all three doubles’ teams ranked in the top 25.

Freshman Niki Polcerova’s six-match winning streak came to an end against the sixth-ranked player in the nation, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 1 singles’ match.

Freshman Meagan Stevens, a Hope Christian School graduate, and junior Amy McGucken teamed up to pick up the lone game win in doubles as they fell to the ninth-ranked doubles’ team in the nation 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

Montevallo’s top two doubles’ teams fell 8-0.

Junior Lauren Blair was the only other singles’ player to pick up a win. She fell 6-0, 6-1 to the 22nd-ranked player in the nation.

The Falcons will return to action this Thursday, March 1 at 2:30 p.m. as they host Tuskegee.
