Spain Park splits doubleheader with Tuscaloosa County

The Spain Park High School baseball team split a doubleheader March 1 against Tuscaloosa County in high school baseball action.

The Jaguars won the opening game against Tuscaloosa County 4-3.

Brandon Bilek led Spain Park at the plate as he went 1-for-3 with a homer. Bilek drove in two runs and scored a run.

Colton Freeman finished 1-for-3 with a run scored. Josh Close went 1-for-4. Hunter Kahn, Hunter Hall and Brandon Marley each finished 1-for-3. Hall also drove in a run and scored a run. Mikey White scored a run, while Dustin Cowart drove in a run.

Cowart started on the mound and gave up two earned runs on two hits with one walk in three innings. Josh Rich earned the win after giving up one unearned run on two hits with two strikeouts in five innings in relief.

Spain Park fell to Tuscaloosa County 7-4 in the nightcap.

White led the Jaguars at the plate as he went 1-for-3 with a homer. White drove in two runs and scored one run.

Paul Angel went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored two runs.

Jacob Chaffin finished 1-for-2. Marley scored a run and drove in a run. Bilek also drove in one run.

John Crawford took the loss after giving up four runs, including three earned runs, on four hits with a strikeout and two walks in one inning in relief.

Freeman started on the mound and finished with five strikeouts and six walks without giving up a hit in 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
