UPDATE: Shelby County schools to dismiss early; private schools and UM follow suit

All Shelby County schools will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. today, March 2, due to the threat of severe weather.

“We are planning a 12:30 dismissal and that affects all after-school activities as well,” said Shelby County Board of Education representative Cindy Warner.

Hilltop Montessori School officials also announced the school will close at noon today. All aftercare activities have been canceled. The school asks that parents make every effort to pick children up by noon.

According to a school official, Cornerstone Christian School has no school today due to an in-service day.

Briarwood Christian School announced it will be dismissing students at 11:45 a.m.

Coosa Valley Academy will be closing at noon, according to the school’s office.

Kingwood Christian School also announced it will be dismissing students at 11 a.m.

The University of Montevallo will close at 11 a.m.
