Jaguars win Calera Invitational

The Spain Park High School boys’ golf team claimed the Calera Invitational tournament championship March 5 at Timberline Golf Club.

The Jaguars carded a team score of 306, which edged second-place Walker by 10 strokes.

Chilton County finished third with a team score of 321. Pelham finished fourth in team standings with a team score of 322, while Oak Mountain came in fifth with a team score of 329.

Robby Prater of Spain Park claimed the individual championship with his round of 1-under par 70, which edged second-place finishers Connor Slane of Pelham and Ivan Truss of Chilton County by three strokes.

Tyler Shope of Chelsea came in fourth overall in individual standings with his score of 3-over par 74. Clay Nolen of Oak Mountain finished fifth with his score of 5-over par 76.

The Jaguars featured four other players with rounds under 83. Cason Reeves of Spain Park fired a 77. Zach Verner of Spain Park carded a 79. Sam Prater of Span Park finished with a score of 80, while Thomas Laney of Spain Park shot an 83.

Slane led the Panthers with his 2-over par 73. Justin Nolen of Pelham carded a 77. Joshua Shaw of Pelham finished with a score of 84. Jordan Lightsey of Pelham carded an 88, while Mackenzie Holley of Pelham shot a 97.

Nolen led the Eagles with his 5-over par 76. Zach Holton of Oak Mountain carded an 80. Tyler Edge of Oak Mountain finished with a score of 82. Dawson Murphy of Oak Mountain shot a 91, while Drew Anderson of Oak Mountain added a 93.

The Spain Park “B” squad finished seventh in team standings with a score of 339.

Matt McGuffie led the Jaguars’ “B” team with his 6-over par 77. Butler Dobbins of Spain Park shot an 86. Jeff Heinke of Spain Park finished with a score of 87. Ian Stone shot an 89, while Johnathan Binde of Spain Park shot a 94.

Chelsea finished eighth in team standings with a team score of 348. Shope led the Hornets with his 3-over par 74.

Josh Parker of Chelsea shot a 90. Jesse Goss carded a 91. Reed Kelley of Chelsea finished with a score of 93, while Zac Tolleson of Chelsea shot a 103.

The Oak Mountain “B” team finished ninth in team standings with a team score of 354. Riley Fowler led the Eagles’ “B” squad after carding an 86.

Matthew Kelley of Oak Mountain shot an 87. Phillip English finished with a score of 89. Sean Kennedy and Guice Potter of Oak Mountain each fired a 92.

Calera, the host of the tournament, came in 14th overall in team standings with a team score of 427. Nick Barton led the Eagles with his score of 95.

Stephen Ellison of Calera shot a 108. Josh Ellison and James Frost of Calera each carded a 112. Dustin Campbell of Calera finished with a score of 119.

Shelby County finished 15th in the team standings with a team score of 444. Christian Kendrick led the Wildcats with his score of 97.

Andrew Brown of Shelby County carded a 110. Matt Gibson of Shelby County fired a 113. Blaine Wakefield of Shelby County shot a 124, while Wally Morris of Shelby County finished with a score of 133.
