Leonard was born and lived most of his life in Alabaster. He passed away March 10, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Wooten and Walton S. Davenport of Shelby County; three brothers, Walton, Harold and Richard Davenport; and two sisters, Dorothy Porter and Faye Ross (Tim).
Mr. Davenport is survived by the love of his life, Gayle; two daughters, Kelly Rock (Bill) of Huntsville and Kendall Hoffman (Dean) of Birmingham; four grandsons, Barrett and Zachary Rock and Jake and Cade Hoffman; two brothers, Jim and Larry Wayne Davenport; two sisters Patricia Bolin (Charles) and Reba Henson (Troy); and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.
Leonard was a fun-loving and high-spirited man who loved his family and friends dearly. He took great pride in his two daughters and four grandchildren; they meant the world to him. At 17, he joined the U.S. Navy and traveled the world. Afterward, he returned to Birmingham where he worked and eventually retired from Connors Steel. As a young man, he played all sports and was a coach and umpire in his community. Later he enjoyed many golf outings with family and friends and the luck of the draw. Leonard was a diehard Alabama football fan. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at Spry Funeral Home in Huntsville on Wednesday, March 14 from noon-2 p.m., with a graveside service immediately following at Maple Hill Cemetery.
