Jaguars split doubleheader in Hoover tournament

The Spain Park High School baseball team split a doubleheader with Hoover and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa on the opening day of the Baptist Health System Buccaneer Classic at Hoover High School.

The Jaguars fell to host Hoover 7-4 in their tournament opener March 19.

Mikey White led Spain Park (12-10) at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with a homer. White drove in two runs and scored one run.

Colton Freeman, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 1-for-4 with a homer.

Hunter Hall went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a run. Paul Angel went 1-for-4 at the plate with a double. Brandon Bilek and Hunter Kahn finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Brandon Marley scored one run.

Dustin Cowart took the loss on the mound after giving up seven runs, including six earned runs, on seven hits with three strikeouts and four walks in three innings.

Davis Kennington gave up just one hit in three innings in relief.

Nathan Richards earned the win on the mound for Hoover after giving up four earned runs on eight hits with 11 strikeouts and two walks in a complete game.

Spain Park defeated Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 15-1 in their second tournament game.

Josh Rich led the Jaguars as he went 3-for-3 at the plate. Rich drove in one run and scored two runs.

White finished 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in two runs. Freeman, who drove in three runs and scored two runs, went 2-for-3 at the plate. Will McDonald, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, finished 2-for-2 at the plate.

Hall, who drove in one run and scored two runs, went 1-for-2 at the plate. Peyton Walsh finished 1-for-1 at the plate and scored two runs. Cowart, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-2 at the plate. Jon Sumner finished 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in one run.

Wes Barrentine finished 1-for-1 at the plate. Marley, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-1 at the plate. Tom Paduch, Kennington and Angel scored one run each.

White earned the win on the mound after giving up just two hits with a strikeout in four innings. Taylor Morris allowed one earned run on two hits in one inning in relief.
