Man drowns in apparent accident

SHELBY — A Sylvan Springs man drowned in an apparent accident at Lay Lake March 20.

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person possibly drowning in Lay Lake close to Spring Creek Camp Road in Shelby at around 10:15 a.m.

According to a sheriff’s office press release, deputies arrived to discover witnesses attempting to resuscitate Fred Lewis Kilgore, 70. Deputies and paramedics also attempted to revive Kilgore, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Sheriff Curry would like to express his sincere condolences to the Kilgore family and their friends for the loss,” the press release stated. “He would also like to thank the witnesses who pulled Mr. Kilgore from the water and began CPR until deputies and paramedics arrived.”

The incident is being treated as an accident, according to the press release.
