Hornets drop doubleheader in Alex City tournament

The Chelsea High School baseball team dropped a doubleheader with Dadeville and Russell County in the Lake Martin Classic tournament March 20 in Alexander City.

The Hornets fell to Dadeville 9-6.

Davis Shoemaker led Chelsea offensively as he went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. Shoemaker drove in one run and scored one run.

Keelan Gregg finished 1-for-4 at the plate and scored one run. Austin Dean, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-2 at the plate. Eli Bashour finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a double. Matthew Graben finished 1-for-4 and scored one run.

Tripp Hobbs finished 1-for-2 at the plate and scored one run. Hunter Howard went 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in one run. Alex Dean drove in one run.

Ross Ham took the loss after giving up six runs, including three earned runs, on five hits with five strikeouts and six walks in four innings.

Shoemaker allowed three earned runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks in one inning in relief. Christian Emmerke struck out one batter and issued two walks in one scoreless inning in relief.

Chelsea fell to Russell County 12-2.

Nathan Roddy finished 1-for-2 at the plate as he recorded the Hornets’ lone hit in the game.

Shoemaker and Hobbs scored one run each. Brody Holder drove in both runs.

Gregg took the loss on the mound after giving up 10 earned runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts and two walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Emmerke allowed two earned runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings in relief.
