Chelsea tops rival Briarwood Christian in area contest

The Chelsea High School baseball team defeated rival Briarwood Christian 14-4 in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 contest March 31.

Austin Dean led the Hornets at the plate as he finished 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Dean drove in two runs and scored three runs in the victory. Davis Shoemaker, who drove in one run and scored three runs, finished 3-for-3 at the plate.

Eli Bashour, who drove in three runs and scored three runs, finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a homer.

Keelan Gregg, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Alex Dean went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and scored two runs. Brody Holder, who drove in five runs, finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a double.

Tripp Hobbs finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Matthew Graben and Michael Bell scored one run each.

Hobbs earned the win in the circle after giving up four earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks in a five-inning complete game.

Matthew Futuro led Briarwood Christian at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Furuto drove in two runs and scored one run.

Daniel Robert, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Cole Pearson, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Tanner Cunningham went 1-for-2 at the plate.

Carter Tyra scored on run.

Ethan Simmons took the loss after giving up seven runs, including four earned runs, on eight hits with three strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Will Brown gave up seven runs, including three earned runs, on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in two innings in relief.
