VINCENT — The town of Vincent is hosting a spring cleaning and asking citizens to help make the town more beautiful.

Vincent will set up a temporary dump site at the municipal park for residents to bring garbage and debris on April 13-15.

This is the first clean-up event in the town’s history, according to Mayor Ray McAllister.

City Council member Johnny Edwards presented the idea to the council and organized the event, McAllister said.

“When you look around and see old trash and cans and bottles in people’s yards, as spring gets here and people start spending time in their yard, unless they can put it in the garbage, their only option is to take it all the way to Columbiana,” McAllister said. “So we wanted to provide then a place to drop it off that was more convenient.”

McAllister said residents can drop off old tires and old appliances but no televisions, computers, food waste or paint cans.

“It’s almost impossible to get rid of old appliances unless you take them to the dump, and we have someone who is going to take the old tires,” he said. “It will give us a chance to take the unsightly trash and rubbish out of people’s yards and clean up the town.”

McAllister said dumpsters will be on the premises and there will be volunteers who will take old tires and appliances.

Afterward, McAllister said the city will dispose of all the waste at the county dump.
