Hornets top Childersburg

The Chelsea High School baseball team defeated Childersburg 3-2 in extra innings in high school baseball action April 4.

Childersburg scored first, plating one run in the bottom of the first inning off Chelsea starting pitcher Ross Hamm. Hamm pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up one run and issuing four walks. Senior Joey Mock took over for Hamm to close out the first inning.

In the top of the second inning, Keelan Gregg reached base on a double and later scored on a triple by Davis Shoemaker.

The game remained tied until the top of the eighth inning when Brody Holder scored on a safety squeeze by Matthew Graben.

The Tigers took advantage of a Chelsea error and tied the game when Reeves Brashear scored on a single by Trevor Bates.

In the top of the ninth inning, senior Austin Dean gave the Hornets the lead for good with a two-out blast over the right-field wall.

The Hornets were led offensively by Austin Dean, who went 1-for-4 with a homerun.

Davis Shoemaker went 1-for-3 with a triple and drove in one run. Keelan Gregg added a double and Matthew Graben was 1-for-3 with a single and drove in one run. Eli Bashour also had a hit in the win.

Joey Mock pitched 7 1/3 strong innings,  giving up one unearned run on two hits with two walks and 12 strikeouts.

Tripp Hobbs picked up his seventh win of the season for the Hornets. Hobbs pitched one inning giving up no runs on one hit with no walks and one strikeout.
