INDIAN SPRINGS — Indian Springs Mayor Steve Zerkis is working with local post offices to allow residents to be able to receive mail addressed to Indian Springs.

Currently, some Indian Springs residents live in the 35124 ZIP code, which is primarily Pelham, while others live in the 35242 and 35244 ZIP codes, which are considered Birmingham-area ZIP codes.

Zerkis said the Pelham Post Office has given approval for residents in the 35124 ZIP code to use Indian Springs addresses when sending and receiving mail, but he’s working to get the same approval from all post offices that service the 35242 and 35244 ZIP codes.

He’s found some success, as the Meadowbrook Post Office has agreed to deliver mail addressed to Indian Springs in the 35242 ZIP code.

He said he’s not sure how long the approval process may take for the different post offices, and it’s possible that official approval may never come from some post offices.

“I’m just going to keep talking with them,” he said. “I think it’s going to work itself out nicely, but it may not be 100 percent official.”

However, Zerkis said he believes residents who live in the 35242 and 35244 ZIP codes and use their Indian Springs addresses will still get their mail.

“If they put Indian Springs, then I think they’ll still be getting their mail OK,” Zerkis said.
