The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has identified a body recovered from an abandoned Leeds quarry as Carrie Elaine Gentry.

Gentry, a Chelsea resident, was reported missing March 29.

Her body was found inside her 2002 Lexus RX300 after it was recovered. The vehicle was found in about 40 feet of water.

The sheriff’s office has opened a homicide investigation in the case, according to a press release.

Sheriff’s investigators have been examining the Lexus for evidence, and have already found blood and DNA, which has been submitted for forensic analysis, according to the press release.

Sheriff Chris Curry expressed his condolences for Gentry’s loved ones.

“This is not the resolution we had all hoped for, and it saddens me that someone would take a life and then discard it this way,” he said. “I have every belief that we will make an arrest in this case and bring Ms. Gentry’s killer to justice.”
