Lions sweep Gardendale in doubleheader

The Briarwood Christian School baseball team swept Gardendale in a high school baseball doubleheader April 14.

The Lions defeated Gardendale 2-0 in the opener.

Ethan Simmons led Briarwood Christian offensively as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate.

Cole Pearson went 1-for-1 at the plate and drove in two runs. Tanner Cunningham finished 1-for-1 at the plate. Matthew Furuto went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored one run.

Cameron Adams earned the win on the mound after giving up just three hits with two strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game shutout.

Briarwood Christian defeated Gardenale 4-3 in the nightcap.

Cunningham led the Lions offensively as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles.

Ben Craft finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two doubles. Furuto, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Simmons went 1-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run. Carter Tyra went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored one run.

Barnes Bankston started on the mound and gave up three runs, including one earned run, on seven hits with three strikeouts in six innings.

Jake Bracewell earned the win after striking out one batter in one inning in relief.
