A 44-year-old Bessemer man was pronounced dead on the scene on April 18 after he was involved in a wreck on Shelby County 52 in Helena, said Shelby County Coroner Diana New.

Carl Glenn Allen was killed when a vehicle he was in collided head-on with another vehicle at about 9 a.m. Another adult and a child, whose names have not yet been released, also were transported by ambulance to local hospitals after the wreck, said Helena Deputy Police Chief Tim Carter.

Police were forced to shut down Shelby County 52 between the Cahaba River Bridge and Shelby County 13 for a few hours as first responders worked to clear the wreck.

A Lifesaver helicopter also responded to the scene.

The April 18 wreck was the second along the stretch of road in less than 24 hours.

Two people were transported to the hospital the evening of April 17 after the truck they were in collided with a Shelby County school bus. No children were injured in the April 17 wreck.
