Calera athletes compete in section track and field meet

The Calera High School boys’ and girls’ track and field teams competed in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 4A section meet April 28 in Beauregard.

The Calera girls’ 400-meter relay team captured an individual title after posting a time of 54.66 seconds.

Shantavia Wilson finished second in the girls’ 100-meter dash with her time of 13.38 seconds. Ashley Shelley came in fourth in the girls’ 100-meter dash with her time of 13.93 seconds.

Samantha King came in second in the girls’ 1,600-meter run with her time of 6:18.81. Brandi Merritt came in fourth in the girls’ 200-meter dash with her time of 28.46 seconds.

The Calera boys’ 400-meter relay team finished second in its event with a time of 47.53 seconds.

Sheldon Nixon finished fourth in the boys’ long jump competition with his leap of 19 feet, 6.5 inches.

The Vincent High School boys’ track and field team competed in an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 2A section meet April 28 in Tuscaloosa.

Dreyton Wood led the Yellow Jackets as he finished sixth in both the 3,200-meter run and the javelin competition. Wood finished with a time of 12:34.99 in the 3,200-meter run, while posting a leap of 97 feet, 2 inches in the javelin competition.
