FROM STAFF REPORTS

MONTEVALLO – The City of Montevallo is nearing completion of its new zoning map. The next — and likely final — public hearing regarding the zoning map is scheduled for Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m. at the Parnell Memorial Library.

“Based on the comments we received during and subsequent to the previous public hearing, we are in the process of working with our professional planning staff from Shelby County Development Services to adjust the map to reflect that input,” write Mayor Ben McCrory in a press release.

The City Council will review proposed revisions prior to the next public hearing at a special work session on May 8 at 4:30 p.m. at city hall. The public is invited that meeting.

During the work session, there will not be an opportunity for public comment. There will also not be any votes or official actions taking place, as the purpose of the work session is for the council to discuss the proposed map and revisions prior to the public hearing and regular council meeting May 14.

According to the press release, the new zoning map and recently approved zoning ordinance likely will become effect June 1, 2012.
