Bulldogs split playoff doubleheader with Marbury

The Montevallo High School baseball team bounced back with an 8-1 victory in the second game of a doubleheader with Marbury to force a deciding third game in a best-of-three series in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 3A quarterfinals May 4.

The Bulldogs, who dropped the series opener 5-3, will face Marbury in the final game of the series May 5 at 1 p.m.

Trevor Chatham allowed just one run while striking out 10 batters in a complete-game victory in the nightcap to force the deciding third game.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead following a sacrifice fly RBI by Hunter Nabors and a RBI single by Zack Smith in the top of the fifth inning. However, Montevallo couldn’t hold onto the lead in the final two innings.

Chase Hamrick took the loss in the series opener after giving up four runs in five innings.
