Montevallo baseball standouts named to all-conference team

University of Montevallo sophomore Will Fulmer and senior Heath Peterson were each named First Team All-Peach Belt Conference at the annual Peach Belt Conference baseball banquet in Columbus, Ga.

Fulmer and Peterson become just the second and third First Team All-PBC selections in  program history after junior Austin Dubberly, a Pelham High School graduate, was named first team last season.

The selection is the first for Fulmer and the second for Peterson, who was named Second Team All-PBC last season.

Fulmer was named the First Team second baseman. He recently broke Peach Belt Conference record for hits in a season for conference games only with 52. He ranks 17th in the NCAA in hits and leads the team in batting average and doubles. He has a .361 batting average with 47 runs scored, 16 doubles and 27 RBI.

Fulmer had a 10-game hitting streak midway through the season and had 25 multiple-hit games. He went 5-for-5 at home against Armstrong for his best game of the season. He drove in a season-high three runs on the road at Tusculum.

Peterson was named a 2012 Player to Watch by the ABCA to start the season and was also named Preseason All-PBC. He was named Preseason All-Southeast Region by NCBWA as well. During the season he was named National Player of the Week by both the NCBWA and D2BaseballNews.com.

Peterson currently ranks third in the NCAA in RBI and 14th in homeruns. He leads the team in homeruns, RBI and slugging percentage. He has a .342 batting average with 43 runs scored, 13 doubles, a triple and 13 homeruns. He has driven in 68 runs and has a .613 slugging percentage. Last season he was named ABCA First Team Golden Glove and Second Team All-PBC.
