Lewis Hilry King Jr., age 75, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 17, 2012. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Columbiana with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Bolton Funeral Home of Columbiana is directing.

Mr. King was born in Union Springs on September 30, 1936 and resided in Columbiana since early childhood. Hilry was blessed with 56 years of marriage to Martha and was the father of three sons.

Following graduation from Shelby County High School, he served with the U.S. Navy stationed at Norfolk, Va. and did his tour on the USS Lloyd. He was the assistant county engineer with the Shelby County Highway Department for 36 years. Upon retirement, he continued his professional life as Director of Public Works for the City of Columbiana from 1990 until the present. He was also a professional land surveyor.

As an active leader in the community throughout his life, he performed many roles. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Columbiana and was instrumental in the building of the Family Life Center. Family was important to him. When his children were growing up, he was a Sunday School Teacher, Cub Scout Leader, President of the PTA, coach of Little League Baseball and Pee-Wee Football.

Mr. King is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Hilry King Sr. and Mozelle Pope King and a sister, Ann Carol King. He is survived by his wife, Martha Brooks King of Columbiana; sons, Michael Dwayne King (Kathy) of Columbiana, Lewis Daniel King of Huntsville, Timothy Brooks King of Birmingham; grandchildren, Michael Todd King (Madison) and Timothy Tyler King; great grandchild, Madiley Claire King; brothers, Thomas A. King (Genece) of Madison and Charles D. King of Columbiana; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
