CHELSEA – Chelsea residents can celebrate America’s birthday as the city puts on its sixth annual Big Kaboom fireworks celebration July 3.

Big Kaboom T-shirts will be given away at Chelsea City Hall beginning June 27 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. while supplies last.

The event will begin officially at 8 p.m. in Chelsea Park, but Mayor Earl Niven said residents tend to arrive early and bring folding chairs and blankets. Fireworks will kick off at 9 p.m. and will last about 20 minutes, Niven said.

“In the city, if you can see the water tower, you’ll be able to see the fireworks,” Niven said in an interview June 22.

Food vendors will attend the event, and the city will partner with Pepsi to provide free drinks.

Niven said Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies and members of the Citizens Observer Patrol will assist in directing traffic.

“The Big Kaboom is a great event for our city. It’s an evening filled with celebration of God, country and family,” Niven said in a press release. “The City of Chelsea is blessed with great people and quality of life desired by many. Come join us for a night of good family fun.”
