State Sen. Jabo Waggoner, R-Vestavia Hills, was recently chosen as a member of the Electoral College for the November presidential election.
Waggoner, who is the Senate majority leader and represents the state’s 16th district, including Jefferson and Shelby counties, was elected as one of Alabama’s two at-large electors by the Republican State Executive Committee.
“This is one of the top honors of my public career,” Waggoner said in a press release. “I am deeply grateful for the confidence of and the overwhelming vote from my fellow Republicans for this very important constitutional duty of casting a vote in the Electoral College for the next president and vice president of the United States.”
The meeting of the state’s presidential electors, who will reflect the popular vote in Alabama, will be Dec. 17 in Montgomery. A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the president and vice president.
