Odis H. Schmittou, 93, of Birmingham, died at his home in Vincent on the evening of Sunday, July 8, 2012, following a period of declining health. He retired from his independent sales company about 40 years ago and has spent several of those years traveling with the Wally Bynum Air Stream Club. He lived at his Acton Road home for 46 years and attended Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church for the past 60 years.

Funeral service was held at the Rocky Ridge Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11 with the Reverends Dick Brown and Kevin Vanderlaan. Visitation with the family was at 10 a.m. Burial will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Paris, Tenn. with Reverend Mark Weldon presiding over the graveside service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 12.

A native of Henry County, Tenn., Odis was born April 4, 1919, in Bowling Green, Ky., son of the late Levi and Ella Schmittou, who resided in Paris, Tenn. He was married February 14, 1947, to the former Carnell Hill, who survives.

Schmittou was a veteran of World War II, where he served as staff sergeant of the 1857th Service Command Unit.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Loggins of Vincent and Jennifer Weldon of Hoover. There are two grandchildren, Alexandria Caroline Nelson of Vestavia and Ryan Smith Weldon of Charleston, S.C. He has one great grandchild, Emma Caroline Nelson of Vestavia. Preceding him in death was a sister, Imogene Schmittou.
