Henry Edward Winslett Sr. of Montevallo passed away on July 15, 2012 at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham. He was born in Boothton on January 16, 1924. He is preceeded in death by his parents, George Harper Winslett and Ethel Lena Horn Winslett; his brothers, George Jewel Winslett, Hilton Eugene Winslett and Herbert Franklin Winslett; his sisters, Mary Frances Winslett Wallace, Sarah Jane Winslett Carden and Barbara Alice Winslett Cleckler; and his first wife, Mary Catherine Jones Winslett.

Mr. Winslett served in the Army Air Corp from 1943-1946 in the Pacific Theatre. His squadron was one of the first to occupy Japan. His duties during World War II were that of airplane mechanic and aerial gunner. He was discharged as a T-Sargent in 1946. After the war, he was employed by Plantation Pipeline Company, where he continued to work for over 40 years.

Henry’s hobbies throughout his life included baseball, golf, building model airplanes, hunting, fishing and boating. He was a charter member of the Montevallo Golf Club and served as an executive officer. Mr. Winslett was the first president of the Montevallo Dixie Baseball League. He was once a member of New Horizons Dinner and Dance Club in Montevallo and a former member of the Lion’s Club. Throughout the years, he was also a member of the Montevallo High School Band Boosters and Montevallo High School Athletic Boosters. He was always in the stands cheering for his children and grandchildren. Later in life, he was able to attend a few games to watch his great-grandchildren play.

He is survived by his second wife, Harriett Ann Bates Randall Winslett; his five children with his first wife and their spouses, Victoria Ann Winslett Payne, Sharon Winslett Garrett, Marilynn Winslett Donoho, Henry Edward Winslett Jr. and Tamara Catherine Winslett Hyer; his 10 grandchildren, Gary Otis Gray II, Glenn Allen Garrett III, Karen Diane Payne Ewing, James David Donoho Jr., Julia Casey Garrett, Bruce Edgar Hyer Jr., Jessica Lynn Donoho Wilson, Henry Edward Winslett III, Emily Allen Winslett and Harper Weston Hyer; his six great-grandchildren, Ansley Rachel Gray, Zachary Robert Gray, Ashley Madeline Ewing, Mary Kathleen Garrett, William Michael Ewing Jr. and Parker Lynn Wilson; his sister, Betty Ann Winslett Nash; his brother, William Lloyd Winslett; and 25 nieces and nephews and their children.

Funeral services will be Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Rockco’s Funeral Home Montevallo. Visitation is immediately prior to the funeral on Sunday at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Montevallo Cemetery.
